How Technology Changed The Way We Pave
How Technology Changed The Way We Pave
Technology plays an important role every day. Everybody uses technology.
The asphalt paving industry is a complex one. You don't often think about the impact that new technology has on asphalt paving. You may be excited to see the latest tablet on the market, but we get excited for new grading techniques and advances in mixtures.
You can see our infographic below that highlights old and modern approaches to asphalt pavement construction in Las Vegas. You might be surprised by the amazing things the asphalt paving contractors of The Paving CrewLV can do using the new paving technology.
Site Preparation
You can determine the drainage plans that will be most appropriate for asphalt installation by measuring and understanding the depths.
Deceased: To determine the grade, contractors had to examine a transit (or site glass) before they could make grading decisions. A plumb-bob was used. The contractor would then look through the transit (or small scope) to find the target.
A laser-guided tram allows a paving team to use laser technology to determine heights from distances far away. Contractors can shoot elevations to best determine drainage plans. The Paving Crew LV uses this technology to accurately and efficiently determine slopes and grades in order to ensure that site drainage is accurate.
You can remove and tear it off.
To begin an asphalt installation from scratch, it is important that the concrete and asphalt have been removed completely.
Outdated A walk-behind roadshow with a 14-inch diamond blade was traditionally used to cut the old surfaces to make them easier to remove.
New Paving professionals can cut 2-inch trenches into old surfaces with the Road Hog's hydraulic technology. This allows them to save time and money. This technology allows The Paving Crew LLC to save money and work more efficiently on job sites.
Slope Controls & Automatic Grade Controls
The laser-guided transit program automatically grades the subbase and asphalt to ensure proper drainage.
Expired: Compactors and graders had traditionally not been equipped with automatic grading features that could detect slope and grade in order for drainage to be created.
Brand New: This new machinery, similar to a motor grader, comes with slope and grade controls. They allow paving professionals in the industry to follow a set grading system. With an automated grader blade, the grader follows exact percentages that ensure correct drainage and grade. The Paving Crew LV is able to use this technology in order to protect asphalt surfaces from water run-off and drainage.
Sub-Base Evaluation:
Before asphalt pavement can be laid, the sub-base must first be tested.
Outdated Paving projects must have a subbase laid. Once the sub-base has been compacted, paving may begin. However, it is impossible to guarantee that the entire sub-surface will be structurally sound and capable of supporting asphalt and constant traffic. Small areas of weak sub-base can cause significant damage to the asphalt surface and may require expensive repairs.
Use of a proof roller and nuclear density to test for sub-base durability is the best way to ensure its integrity. To find sub-base areas that flex more than one inch, proof rolling involves running a fully loaded quad-axel truck weighing 72,000 pounds over the entire area. The nuclear density compaction test evaluates the material's density. The ideal density/compaction rate is 99%. The Paving Crew LV can combine these two methods to ensure that the asphalt surface is strong and stable.
Undercutting Repair:
Undercutting is used to repair damaged subbase areas.
An older and more expensive method of repairing undercutting involves digging down to 2-3 feet and then filling the area with gravel and stone to reinforce the sub base's support structure.
With the use of geo-grid or fabric, The Paving Crew LV is only required to dig 18inches below the surface in order to make repairs. Geo-grid is used to support the sub-base. This will save you time and money. It will also provide long-lasting results to improve the structural integrity of asphalt surfaces.
Asphalt Plants & Daily quality Testing
Asphalt plants produce asphalt pavement by recycling it and selling it to general contractors. Asphalt testing facilities can test paving materials, from the moisture level in the sand to the asphalt itself.
outdated: Using asphalt made in another country than the one that was intended for it. It is also important to not test the paving materials before using them.
New: The Paving Crew LV operates two asphalt-manufacturing plants in Oconomowoc and Sun Prairie. The Paving Crew LV is able to control the quality and make customized mixes according to a project or climate needs. The Paving Crew LV can also test each step of the process on-site. The Paving CrewLV can ensure the proper mix of asphalt-based upon real-time information by conducting on-site testing.
Preventive Maintenance
Preventive maintenance can double asphalt pavement's lifespan.
Outdated Laying of asphalt surfaces without seal coating or crack filling.
It is possible to prolong the life span of asphalt pavement by establishing a preventive care schedule with customers. Customers need to be informed about the cost-saving benefits associated with regular maintenance. This is how customers can get the most of their asphalt surface. This important educational component allows The Paving Crew LV to offer a high-quality product as well as a lasting experience.
